"You’re either part of the solution or you’re part of the problem." – Eldridge Cleaver
You may have noticed a savage cull of blog posts recently. This is the result of a lot of thought about what is part of the solution, and what is part of the problem; anything that is not part of the solution diverts time and effort from it, and thereby becomes part of the problem since it degrades the quality of the solution.
- Worldbuilding is part of the problem.
- Mashups are part of the problem.
- Looking for One Game to Rule Them All is part of the problem.
For the kind of game I want to run, the best rules engine is Savage Worlds, with the Mythic GM Emulator for solo play, and the best setting is Beasts & Barbarians. I’ve been using them since 2008 and 2012 respectively, and I see no reason to change. It’s part of the solution.
All Things Zombie is on probation, but probably part of the solution. Stars Without Number is on probation, but probably part of the problem as it definitely entails worldbuilding and probably entails a mashup (because I’d want to Savage it).
A side effect of the cull is the observation that the posts I’ve kept average out at a little less than one per week; so I’ll shift to a weekly post on Wednesdays, and strive for better posts.
